Of all the people in this city unsatisfied with a product or upset with a service, how many actually do something about it? They may whine about it on their blogs or vent to the Suburban Journals’ “Town Talk,” but why not go to the source and give it to ’em straight? You’ll usually find me yelling at one of St. Louis’ unsynchronized stoplights, saying ridiculous things like, “Do employees of the street department even drive on these streets?” But my call to the Webster Groves Street Division was completely justified. I noted how the walk signal at a three-way intersection came on when those turning left got the green to go. Drivers were getting mad, pedestrians were nearly getting hit and no one but me seemed to understand why. I talked to the director, who understood my concern (but defended the setup by saying it kept the traffic flowing) and said he’d look into it. The next day at said intersection, I noticed a lit-up man telling me to walk while the left-bound cars waited patiently at a red light. Simple as that, I thought. Simple as that.
