Planning a wedding has caused many a war between mothers and daughters—but not so with Connie Lucks and Kristin Lucks Shelton. After putting together Shelton’s 2008 nuptials, the pair was so smitten with the process that they decided to open their own bridal boutique.
With a little help from family and friends, they opened the doors of Fleur De Lis Bridal Boutique (8109 Maryland, 314-721-2457, fleurdelisbridal.com) in January. The shop is in a prime location blessed with heavy foot traffic. So what about those passersby dreaming of the big day? Will they be shunned at the front door? Far from it—while an appointment is necessary to try on gowns, you don’t need one to browse. After all, says Shelton, “A bride should be able to look around before she commits to making an appointment. That way she’ll know if we have the style of dress she’s searching for.”
The boutique’s determined to make the bride-to-be feel like a star, so all eyes will be on her—not a bridesmaid’s dress or a groomsman’s tuxedo. Couture gowns from Elizabeth Fillmore, Liancarlo, Rivini, Judd Waddell, and Junko Yoshioka (all sold in St. Louis exclusively at Fleur De Lis) line the airy space. As two women who know the importance of accessories, they chose Erin Cole Design for her showstopping jewelry—the perfect complement to the bevy of gowns.
