The Shops at 8787
Three St. Louis women—Christy Zisser of The Upcycled Owl, Michelle Tribl of Brandon Interiors, and Deb Rankin of The French Bee—have joined forces to open The Shops at 8787 (8787 Big Bend, 314-835-7883). “We really have a great mix, not just one style,” says Zisser. With a commitment to supporting local artists, the shop is stocked with handcrafted items, including reupholstered, vintage, and painted furniture, as well as custom floral arrangements, gifts, jewelry, and home accessories. The trio also offers in-home design and staging services. And more is forthcoming for The Shops: The group has plans to update an empty gas station next door.
2 Chics on 2nd Street
Dena Ferraro knew she’d found the right spot for her new shop, 2 Chics on 2nd Street (913 N. Second, St. Charles, 314-277-2241), as soon as she made a visit to historic St. Charles this past fall. “I love the Frenchtown area, and it’s making a comeback,” says Ferraro. Focusing on repurposed and “reloved” pieces, the store includes 10 “galleries” and is replete with furniture, rugs, lamps, art, books, and accessories. Many of the items originate from estate sales, barn sales, and flea markets. Moreover, whether you buy a piece of furniture there or bring in one purchased elsewhere, the “chics” will paint it for you. And the prices
to buy pieces here are amazingly low. “We have a variety of things, and everything changes daily,” says Ferraro.
