It isn’t often a husband encourages his better half to acquire more handbags. But for University City native Raquel Hunter—who had dabbled in candle-making, glassware design and metalwork—it was her hubby who suggested she concentrate on handbag design. So Hunter took the advice to heart and launched doübebags (pronounced “do you be bags”). After several years in the biz, Hunter’s collection now includes hand-crafted bags, belts, card cases and wallets made of sumptuous patent leather and suede. The latest must-have bag is the Joey, a sack with just the right amount of structure to it, an interior divider, easily accessible pockets and a braided shoulder strap. For Hunter, it turns out listening to your husband can have its benefits. doübebags are sold at Paperdolls, Byrd, Mezzanine, Ziezo and I AM. (doubebags.com)
