The latest addition to the complex north of Laclede’s Landing, the Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis has luxurious amenities like Lumière Place has wild-eyed gamblers—and what seems like more perks in one room than you’ll find in the entire casino. The hotel’s marketing director, Melissa Lorenz, shows us what goes into a room at this riverside oasis.
- The framed artwork is no cookie-cutter reproduction; each room or suite features at least one original work of art commissioned just for the hotel.
- For those who feel like staying in, this “urban resort” offers pampering in peace, with in-room massages and 24-hour room service. “If you want a 4 a.m. burger and a Budweiser, it’ll be made fresh,” says Lorenz. They’ll even accommodate your pet with bowls for food and water. The only indulgence forbidden: smoking. “We’re all about fresh air here,” says Lorenz.
- Media options abound, from the iHome iPod dock clock radio to CD/DVD players to 42-inch LG plasma TVs—PlayStation and CD/DVD library available on request. “Getaway” doesn’t have to mean “off the grid”: the Post-Dispatch starts you off, with both wired and wireless Internet available for $10.95 a day and a printer/copier/fax available on request. All major cable channels come standard. If that’s not enough, see the hotel’s business center, with conference rooms, computers, faxes and major newspapers on tap.
- Chair look familiar? You may have seen its cousins gracing the stage at CNN’s Democratic presidential debates. It’s Herman Miller’s Eames Aluminum Group side chair. Accompanying furniture and lighting sources from Knoll and Baker, respectively, and granite countertops on the minibar and in the bathroom offer additional opulence. “For our guests, the amenities are what they have at home,” Lorenz says. “It’s what they expect when they travel.”
- Guests in the hotel’s south-facing rooms get the striking view of St. Louis’ skyline seen here, with the added option of ogling sunbathers around two pools on the eighth-floor terrace. Guests with a northern exposure, on the other hand, will want to focus on the Four Seasons’, er, other amenities. Try a visit to the seventh-floor spa.
- On the bed: down covers and pillows, with hypoallergenic versions available. On the floor: carpet woven in England specifically for this hotel.
- Somewhere in this room is a hidden safe.
- The hotel staff goes through a 310-point “Perfect Room” checklist before turning things over to you—even using a black light to catch potential spills before you get the key.
- You get cable while you brush your teeth, too, via a 15-inch screen in the bathroom mirror. So you can watch the news—or brush along to the music video for Ludo’s “Love Me Dead” on VH1. The rain forest shower and deep soaking tub offer other prime viewing locations.
- On the shelf: fluffy towels. Standard in your closet: silk padded hangers, slippers and a terry-cloth bathrobe.
