St. Louis’ favorite appetizer has taken a step up to the international level after being featured in the World Toasted Ravioli Eating Championship. The competition was held November 20 at Charlie Gitto’s at Harrah’s Casino. It was hosted and sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating and challenged participants to eat as many toasted raviolis as they could in 12 minutes. Among the professional and semi-professional consumers was the diminutive winner, 100-pound Sonya “Black Widow” Thomas, a renowned competitive eater. Thomas managed to take down four pounds, or approximately 100 deep-fried squares, in the 12 minutes allowed. Now there’s some serious food for thought.
