Rowing Along Twenty-five years ago, Scott Allison and a small group of dedicated rowers hosted the inaugural Gateway Regatta at Creve Coeur Lake. “Most of my memory is the terror of not knowing how to put on a regatta,” the St. Louis Rowing Club’s treasurer quips. And the years that followed? “It’s a total blur.” Some years, hundreds of rowers showed up; other years, as during the rain-soaked summer of ’93, the event was canceled. But when it all comes together, as Allison’s hoping it will on June 2, few sports are more awe-inspiring—even from the sideline. “It’s a pretty sport to watch,” he says.
