Just the concept of Winslow's Home, "a modern general store," has to conjure up a smile, a soothing remembrance of a simpler time. Imagine a mix of Dean & DeLuca, The Gifted Gardener and your favorite boutique giftery (with a little well-chosen wine thrown in for good measure), and you get pretty close. Chefs with specific talents come and go throughout the day, leaving marks like pecan breakfast pie or a roasted yellow beet and ricotta salata sandwich on panini-grilled ciabatta. Artisanal meats and fish are respectively "Home"- cured and smoked, some finding their way to the vintage cold case for takeout. For dinner the massive whiteboard gets scribbled with chicken tagine and beer-braised brisket. Flowers and produce from the owner's farm in Augusta seal the deal … baby fennel, bouquets of garden roses, nine varieties of heirloom tomatoes. A fun sidebar: observing who's leaving with what, like the guy with several garden hoses, a bag of lump charcoal, some prepared appetizers and several bottles of wine … hot time, summer in U. City.
