Dinner daily
After a recent transformation, one might say The Cheshire—located at the highest point in the city (a whopping 614 feet above sea level)—is finally living up to its elevation. The principal restaurant (unceremoniously called The Restaurant) is a showstopper: what Busch’s Grove wanted to be, but ultimately wasn’t. Here, guests are greeted by a 1,600-bottle wall of wine that segues into three differently appointed rooms, one leading to an original stone fireplace and three of the most romantic tables in the city, the perfect venue for hearty fare like roasted heritage chicken plucked from the large rotisserie, a grass-fed strip steak still sizzling from the wood grill, or a mighty pork chop from an equally impressive smoker out back. For a nightcap, die-hard traditionalists retreat to the adjacent Fox & Hounds Tavern, a “renovation” that translated to simply reopening the place, untouched, which meant keeping all of the oil paintings—including the one with the finger hole in it.
