Kyo fits nicely into the hip environs of Washington Avenue. On the lower level, booths frame an open area where the beautiful people stand, and those who make it past the velvet rope to the upper lounge area have a great view of the floor below.
Want out-of-the-ordinary drinks? Try a lemongrass mojito or an Asian Pear (a martini matched with pear-flavored sake). Want drinks you’ve heard of? There’s beer, wine and sake.
At times, Kyo scores with its pan-Asian menu, mixing the fun (Kyo Sliders, spicy chicken lollipops—in other words, chicken wings that look like lollipops) with the funky (chocolate sushi).
Beware the off-putting negative vibe that less-than-stylish attire will get you. But if you’re willing to leave the flip-flops and Hawaiian shirt in the closet for the night, Kyo might just become your new downtown dining spot.
