"We’re here for the beer.” The well-worn frat-party exclamation could double as the raison d’être for the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, the 80-tap, 160-bottle basilica of craft beer that landed in St. Louis in large part because of our continuing reputation as a beer town. In fact, a quarter of the St. Louis Saucer’s draft beers hail from Missouri, an unprecedented number of local beers for any of the 16 outposts nationwide. From a coveted seat on the covered patio, you’re close enough to Busch Stadium to see Stan Musial’s statue; if you’re seated inside, a wall of windows opens, bringing the sounds of the stadium indoors. Consider a house-made pretzel, an Usinger’s brat, or a bratzel, and expect beers from 100 different brewers (but not Anheuser-Busch InBev); kitschy wall decor (but no Cardinals memorabilia); and carbonated wisdom tendered by a staff that’s schooled in beer, brewing, and bantering. Honorific wall plates are bestowed upon those who sample 200 unique beers (approximately 1,200 to 1,400 individuals per location). Go to Busch Stadium to celebrate baseball, then go to the Flying Saucer to celebrate beer.
