For the last 20 years, Chuy's was one of Dogtown's biggest draws. Then last summer it suddenly closed—and just as suddenly reappeared in midtown, bigger and bolder, with the Arzola family still at the helm. But is it the same ol' Chuy's? Más o menos. Coby Arzola calls it "the same, but fresher." The same not-too-thick chips, but fresher salsa; the same wide array of enchiladas, but fresher fillings (like fresh spinach and portobello mushrooms); the same award-winning beef fajitas rancheras ... no changes necessary. Want something more authentic? On weekends, there's a traditional Mexican brunch, with tortilla-based breakfast staples like chilaquiles, the Corn Flakes of Mexico. Not edgy enough, you say? Upscale regional Mexican cuisine and handcrafted margaritas are but five minutes away at its sister restaurant, Agave. If you're thinking Mexican food and you're in midtown, the Arzola family has you covered like a custom-made sombrero.
