Starting this fall, Washington University and nine other top-tier schools will offer a number of undergrad courses via the Web-based platform Semester Online, allowing students studying abroad to keep up with their coursework and tap into more classes. The move is a departure from what some other area colleges offer. Saint Louis University, Fontbonne University, and Webster University typically offer online courses only to adult learners in night school, but all of their offerings are vast. At the same time, massive open online courses are on the rise, with free noncredit classes now available from professors at schools like Harvard University. Clearly, the revolution in higher education will be digitized.
