Photography courtesty of Union Station
Union Station’s Grand Hall, relit and reorganized, is scheduled to open in late May. It’s been designed as a destination for St. Louisans, not a mere tourist lure—but by all means, bring Aunt Mabel when she visits. She’ll gaze at the changing pictures coming alive on the 65-foot ceiling, and her trifocals will fall unnoticed from her hand. Settle her in a comfy armchair with a smashing cocktail and a small plate that’s more elegant than anything they serve in Poughkeepsie. Now you can wander off to the raw bar for oysters, chat with an unencumbered friend at the 22-seat long bar, or climb up to the Whispering Arch for a quick kiss and a promise to get Aunt Mabel home early, then return for a multicourse wine dinner and live jazz.
