Revelers enjoyed light fare and complimentary Peroni, Miller Chill and Tommy Bahama Rum cocktails. Impossibly gorgeous models sashayed down the runway in the brightest spring fashions from Neiman Marcus. Sure, the partygoers minds were on high style, but a good share of the ladies were there to treat a fever of a different kind. An impressive stretch of seafood (crab, lobster and shrimp) greeted the nearly 350 guests at this Central West End hot spot's opening. Internationally celebrated restaurateur (and St. Louis native) Larry Levy's venture with entertainment mogul Ted Koplar was the toast of the town this Thursday night. From the stone crab—caught in the Florida Keys specifically for the event—to the made-to-order crêpes and plump chocolate-covered strawberries laid out atop the wine racks, ~scape proved a delightful—and delicious—escape.

October 17, 2007Saks Fifth Avenue's The Hunt for Pink October
A sumptuous buffet, pastel-frosted pastries and tasty "dessert martinis" kept more than 1,000 guests satisfied as St. Louis women shopped for a cure at Saks Fifth Avenue's The Hunt for Pink October event. This kickoff to the boutique's four-day women's cancer fundraiser, part of Saks' nationwide Key to the Cure event, was its most successful to date, bringing in more than $100,000 to benefit the Siteman Cancer Center and Gateway to Hope. Two percent of the four-day shopping weekend's sales went straight to those charities, as well.

October 11, 20072007 Grand Center Gala
Following cocktails in the Sheldon's Louis Spiering Room, Grand Center honored local arts philanthropists Ken and Nancy Kranzberg for their outstanding contributions to St. Louis culture and arts—including Grand Center itself, of course. A delectable gourmet dinner followed—and even that was but an appetizer to the evening's main course, a sizzling performance by Grammy Award-winning diva Dionne Warwick (a philanthropist in her own right), who belted out the hits to an appreciative crowd in the Sheldon's concert hall. Jazz St. Louis executive director Gene Dobbs Bradford joined in with fluid blues harmonica soloing.

Models made a surprise entrance onto the (fashion) runway from a plan parked outside on the (real) runway, giving guests an exclusive view of Nordstrom's fall collections. The warm weather gave guests themselves license to wear their most daringly chic outfits. Completing the scene: drinks from Pearl Vodka and Bud Select, plus food from Butler's Pantry.

"Get up, baby, get up!" Just about the entire Shannon clan, accompanied by former Cardinals teammates, fellow broadcasters and Cards top brass, turned out at Mike Shannon's Steaks & Seafood to celebrate the sportsman's legacy before the official pre-game ceremony at Busch Stadium. Shannon, born and raised in St. Louis, signed with the Cards in 1958, playing a key role on three Cardinals World Series teams before moving up to the team's front office in 1971 and into the broadcast booth the following year. The Cards' home finale proved a fitting tribute, as the team bested the Houston Astros 4-3.

September 15, 2007Junior League of St. Louis Benefit Polo Match
Horses' hooves thundered over the cool grass of Chesterfield's Smith McGehee Polo Field this chilly September afternoon as spectators cheered and sipped wine on the sidelines. Known since antiquity as the "game of kings," polo has a long legacy here: The St. Louis Polo Club is the second oldest existing in the country, and the first match benefiting local nonprofits took place here in 1893. This year's match upheld that legacy, with more than 250 guests bringing in $18,000 to benefit the Junior League's community programs.

September 2, 2007Nelly's Black and White Ball
Only the barest wisp of swirling lights on the Chase Park Plaza's outer walls gave Central West End drivers and pedestrians a hint of the delicious mayhem taking place inside. In contrast with the unseasonably cool summer night, it was hot, hot, hot in there, with R&B singer Ruben Studdard swaying a star-studded crowd that included internationally celebrated hip-hop and rap artists Ashanti, Jibbs and the St. Lunatics, plus Nelly, co-host Jermaine Dupri and scores of local celebrities.

August 25, 2007An Evening With Wild Canid - On Assignment
Forget Snakes on a Plane. Busch Gardens and SeaWorld flew lemurs and alligators cross-country for the Wild Canid Center's annual gala at Roberts Orpheum Theatre. Sharing space with these animals were 150 guests, who were moved (or perhaps frightened) to donate thousands of dollars to the wolf sanctuary. National Geographic's Joel Sartore, whose photography has helped raise awareness about endangered wild wolves, was honored with Wild Canid's Perkins Partner in Conservation Medal.

August 25, 2007TalentPlus Celebrates 30 Years: A St. Jude's Benefit

August 23, 2007St. Louis Magazine's Best Dressed Party
The cocktails and the conversation both bubbled as the city's savviest sartorialists took the fore at St. Louis Magazine's Best Dressed soirée. Former Cardinals player Ozzie Smith and fashionista Jerry Talamantes were just a couple of the familiar faces paying homage to this year's 13 snappiest dressers, who each were presented with a massive gift box from Saks Fifth Avenue. Colorful sushi and canapés from Busch's Grove chefs quelled the packed crowd, which chatted the night away while enjoying the sounds of Arvell and Company.

August 16, 2007Saint Louis Crisis Nursery's Celebrity Waiter and Waitress Event
Media types are sometimes accused of "taking tips" from strange sources and "dishing out" the criticism, sans action. But the tables turned one hot night at Monarch, when St. Louis media celebs (as well as numerous corporate leaders, politicians and sports stars) sprang into action to dish with diners and gather tips from patrons to raise funds for Saint Louis Crisis Nursery. By the end of the night, more than 650 people had gone home stuffed, leaving only crumbs and a pile of dough totaling approximately $70,000.

April 28, 2007COCAcabana
Hundreds converged under the giant tent raised in COCA's parking lot to suspend reality for a night and hobnob in cosutmes reflecting fashion throughout the ages, for better or for worse, in honor of this year's theme, "Fashion Follies." St. Louis' best-know fashion plates traveled to the darkest depths of their closets and emerged bedecked in feathers, silk, sequins and atrocities so heinous we dare not speak of them. Though many dressed with a nod to frivolity, the event itself, which featured dinner, dancing and a premium silent auction, was seriously entertaining.

April 26, 2007Metropolis' 10 Year Anniversary Party
Metropolis celebrated 10 years of luring young professionals to St. Louis in fitting style, taking over downtown hot spot Copia for an awards ceremony and birthday party. Though the event included none of the clown-and-cupcake fanfare of most 10-year-olds' parties, guests seemed more than sated by the fantastic wine selection and delicious dinner, and the night's success was proof positive of Metropolis' own success.

April 26, 2007Old Bags
Handbag lovers gathered at The Living World at the St. Louis Zoo for a party and silent auction to benefit the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition. Hundreds of gorgeous designer handbags, both brand new and gently used were auctioned off.

St. Louis Magazine Welcomes new Editor-in-Chief Stephen Schenkenberg

A blaring fire alarm dissuaded no one from boarding the elevator to get into Mandarin Lounge to welcome St. Louis Magazine's new Editor-in-Chief, Stephen Schenkenberg. Once inside, friends and fans of the magazine mingled, reveling in the opportunity to catch up with old friends and chat with Mr. Schenkenberg. The excited buzz trailed off well into the evening, effectively drowning out that fire alarm which, luckily, only signaled a hot party.

February 16, 2007St. Louis Mayor's Mardi Gras Ball
You know what they say: It ain’t a party until the mayor of the city puts on a sparkly mask and a cape. By those standards, City Hall saw the one and only party of the year with this event.

January 27, 2007Reminisce with Ranken Jordan Gala
Patients, employees and supporters of Ranken Jordan, the state's only pediatric specialty hospital, celebrated the organization's 66th anniversary amid a photo display depicting founder Mary Ranken Jordan and the hundreds of children she helped over the years. Her charitable influence lives on to this day.

January 26, 2007Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center's Evening with Chris Botti
St. Louisans certainly aren't the only ones dazzled by trumpeter Chris Botti's many talents—People magazine named Botti one of its "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2004, and he has earned multiple Grammy nominations—but at this event Botti played for our ears only, a gift for which concertgoers happily thanked him.

January 25, 2007Contemporary Art Museum's Champagne Reception with Artist Jim Hodges
Art lovers from around the world gathered in St. Louis to celebrate the opening of I Remember Heaven: Jim Hodges and Andy Warhol. January 14, 2007Unveiled 2007
More than 50 bridal vendors gathered at the Chase Park Plaza to woo St. Louis' most discerning brides with the best nuptial fare the city has to offer. Guests sipped champagne and sampled wedding cake as they perused photographers' portfolios, reliving the most decadent of their childhood wedding fantasies or planning the real thing.

January 6, 2007COCAdance Anniversary
The Center of Creative Arts united members past and present for "Looking Back, Looking Forward," the 15th-anniversary celebration of COCAdance, a dance company for high school students capable of performing and training at an advanced level. Graduate Antonio Douthit, currently of New York City's Alvin Ailey dance company, fresh off a rave review from The New York Times, brought his blossoming talents to the event. Current troupe members rose to the challenge posed by their elders, resulting in a breathtaking event.

January 3, 2007The St. Louis Black Repertory Company's Rep Ties Gala
The second annual Rep Ties Gala lured more than double last year's crowd with a compelling production of Ain't Misbehavin', which drew rave reviews from the giddy crowd, decked out in a variety of ties, ascots and scarves in honor of the event—but the chance to recognize Toni Bailey, retired Boeing executive, and Ken Page, a local actor most recently spotted in the film Dreamgirls, was just as satisfying.

December 22, 2006Beautiful Life Party
The Central West End reveled in its role as host to the unabashedly beautiful as Mandarin Lounge crooked its finger and St. Louisans came sauntering, with high confidence and low BMIs, to sip cocktails, win prizes and marvel at a night that never lost its luster.

December 22, 2006Veiled Prophet Ball

December 20, 2006Food Outreach Holiday Party
Colleen and Robin Carlton opened their home to a festive fundraiser for Food Outreach, spreading good fortune liberally as guests gathered to eat, drink and make merry in an effort to help others do the same. The Discovery Channel sent a camera crew to film the event, which will be bringing holiday cheer to its audience next holiday season.

December 9, 2006Art Museum Biennial Gala
The Snow Ball's 400-or-so artfully outfitted guests only amplified the delicate beauty of the Saint Louis Art Museum's Sculpture Hall. The ethereal was commonplace throughout the evening, but the sweetest treat was the funds raised—more than a quarter-million dollars to support arts-education programs at the museum.

December 2, 2006Friends of Wings 5th Annual Big Bear Brunch
The crowd at this brunch didn't need any Bloody Marys to loosen up—just a cookie-decorating station and some balloon animals. The peanut butter–jelly buffet probably didn't hurt, either. But it was the Build-A-Bear raffle that really got the crowd to go wild.

December 1, 2006Mental Health Association Snowball Gala
Now in its seventh decade, the Mental Health Association of Greater St. Louis has had plenty of time to perfect its fundraisers. Guests vied silentyly for enticing auction items as the Fabulous Motown Revue crooned them into fits of generosity. The city's greatest resource for the more than 270,000 St. Louisans affected by mental illness ended the night grateful, its own resources replenished.

November 22, 2006St. Louis Magazine's Singles Bash
While it may have started as the Singles Bash, that title was far from apt by the end of the night. More than a few of our Top Singles were spotted leaving cozily coupled—and they weren't the only ones. Cynics may call it coincidence, a lapse in judgment or the happy side effect of a chilly night—we call it love.

November 18, 2006Young Zoo Friends' Zootini
The hastily scrawled sign outside the Saint Louis Zoo's Living World—"Zootini is sold out!"—hinted at the revelry inside, where guests sporting their best Brazilian-style attire sipped zoo-themed martinis and nabbed chicken saté from milling waiters before gathering on the dance floor. There, the samba-savvy group partied like they were at Carnaval—a wild party for wild animals.

November 18, 2006Better Family Life's 21st Annual Unity Ball

"That started the excitement, which just carried over through the night." The benefit brought the community aid organization one giant step closer to renovating one of the buildings it uses for a variety of its services.

November 12, 2006St. Andrew's Remarkable St. Louisans Dinner Gala
The dinner—held at the Chase Park Plaza's Khorasson Room—was scrumptious from start to finish. The honorees, 24 of St. Louis' most selfless senior citizens, were inspirational. November 11, 2006Mandarin Lounge Opening
The Central West End's newest hot spot had the city abuzz long before its official opening. The luxe lounge was graced with both Nelly's and Orlando Pace's raucous birthday celebrations, as well as SLM's November launch party, before its formal introduction to the city's nightlifers on November 11. Finally, delightfully, the crowd's curiosity was sated.

November 3, 2006Hoorah for the Bra!
The party for Cheree Berry's book of the same name, which celebrates the support garment of the century, was hardly your topical sedate book signing. C-cups, desserts and martinis were as plentiful as the hard facts (or, should we say, pleasantly firm) that the cheeky pop-up book delivers in spades.

October 28, 2006St. Louis Cardinals World Series Celebration
The room sizzled with giddy jubilation as the Cards feted the previous night's triumph at Mike Shannon's Steaks and Seafood. The accolades flowed faster than the champagne, and the team deserved it all. Let them eat steak.

October 22, 2006Animal House's Barkapalooza
The day was chilly, but dogs and owners took it as an invitation to bundle up in their coziest Sunday best and join the fun, which included pet talent and agility contests. Even the canine-free had plenty to enjoy as they listened to sets from local bands. At day's end attendees were happy to head home, satisfied that they'd helped fund a home for animals less fortunate than their own.

October 21, 2006Judy Ride Foundation's Ninth Annual Spin
Hundreds of bikers gathered to pedal fiendishly for three hours in an effort to get, well, technically nowhere, at the Judy Ride, held jointly with the Survivors’ Breakfast. Though they didn’t cover much distance, it would be folly to say that the participants didn’t get anywhere. With their endurance they paid homage to the strength and tenacity of women with breast cancer. Afterward, the tired riders enjoyed massages and plenty of treats, from fresh muffins and bagels to goodie bags full of swag.

October 15, 2006Copia First Anniversary Party
Synergy Productions and Will Witherspoon of the St. Louis Rams hosted the raucous celebration that coasted into the wee hours, buoyed by plenty of good food, strong ddrinks, fresh fashion and eclectic music. Though some partygoers may not have remembered the event in the morning, you can be sure no one will forget to show up next year.

October 14, 2006Saint Louis Science Center's Trash or Treasure Gala
No need to consult an expert—this event was a gem. From the array of items and trips auctioned off to the delicious food served in the skywalk over Highway 40, this party glittered with enough tiny details to keep it shining all night. The Keno brothers (although somewhat diminutive) were no small addition; guests continued to rave about their genuine affability long after their departure.

October 6, 2006The Repertory Theatre's Mainstage Madness Gala October 6The bawdy antics of the revelers at this 40th anniversary party demonstrated the theater’s enduring constant while displaying how much has changed since it was founded by the Sisters of Loretto. Packed house? Of course. Chaste nuns? Not so much.
