Who knew the Age of Reason would translate so well to modern times? The décor inside Valerie Mills, the Crescent's newest women's boutique, is a throwback to 18th-century Europe. "I hired [designer] Kiku Obata to create a space that would reflect the elegant and modern brands I carry," says owner Valerie Mills. "It's a sophisticated, light and spacious sitting room with special details, fabrics and finishes that add a playful twist." Step inside this elegant space, and you'll be reminded of lush sitting rooms of the past. Browse through modern collections from the likes of Anna Sui, McQ, Vivienne Tam, White + Warren and Nili Lotan. A St. Louis native, Mills is familiar with the best in women's clothing after a long stint at famous retailer Fred Segal in Los Angeles. When she decided to take the plunge by setting up shop this August, home was the only place to do it. The result? One more reason to shop in Clayton.
