Servers’ Affectations  We realize we’re not in Italy, France, or Spain. If you can’t get the pronunciation of a foreign dish right, don't bother, and it’s OK. We’d prefer you speak the Americanized version correctly rather than butcher the mother tongue all to hell.

Insider Tip

Did you know that DiGregorio’s Market on The Hill sells frozen ravioli? Perhaps. But did you know they have 50 varieties (we repeat, fifty) of same? Hah, didn’t think so.

Hot Spots

WHAT ARE TODAY'S TOP OPTIONS?
  • J Fires' Bistro — Metro area diners are taking full advantage of patio weather by visiting The Garden at J Fires', a covered patio nestled in the back of a beautifully-restored 19th century Waterloo farm home. Dinner only Wed-Sun, plus Sunday brunch.
  • The Fountain on Locust — We're pretty sure The Fountain is the only eatery on earth with both Dill Pickle Soup and "the smallest hot fudge sundae in the world" on their menu. And then there's the adult ice cream drinks that pair very nicely with Burlesque Bingo that sashays through once a month. Be sure to seek out owner Joy Grdnic, the creative genius who conceived the whole shebang. It--and she--is a hoot and a howl.
  • Pint Size Bakery — Opened on May 1, Pint Size Bakery is already racking up superlatives...for the double-chocolate cupcakes, oatmeal cream pies, custom cakes, and unusual varieties of cookies (some as big as a plate).
