Hundreds of savvy shoppers stood in line today anticipating the opening of Taubman Prestige Outlets, the first of two outlet malls to open in the Chesterfield area.
Among the first in line were Kathryn Hayden, Mahlik Hall, and Janice Hall, all of whom had been there since 4:45 a.m., hoping to be one of the first 1,000 shoppers to receive a $25 gift card and excited to shop at the new Steve Madden store.
As shoppers were slowly let in, acapella group Vocal Edge entertained the crowd before the official opening ceremonies, which included a ribbon cutting and speeches by Chesterfield mayor Bob Nation and Taubman Centers chairman, president, and CEO Robert Taubman.
Colleen O’Neill, general manager of Taubman Prestige Outlets, announced major donations to the city of Chesterfield, the Cardinal Glennon Childrens’ Foundation, and the Humane Society of Missouri.
When the stores officially opened their doors, shoppers filled the outlet mall's open-air and dog-friendly layout.
Shops such as The Collective Outlet, which carries merchandise from local stores, and Christmas in St. Louis give this mall a local attachment, along with the anticipated Restoration Hardware, J. Crew, Banana Republic, and Gap outlets (see the full list of stores here). Currently 80 percent of the mall is leased, with subsequent shops, such as a Juicy Couture outlet, set to open this fall.
On August 26, the other Chesterfield outlet mall, St. Louis Premium Outlets, is scheduled to open, but O’Neill doesn’t seem worried about the competition. “They have comparable retail, and there’s plenty of stores to go around,” she says.
This weekend, Taubman Prestige Outlets will offer live entertainment, specials at participating stores, and special giveaways.
