This week I had the pleasure of previewing the Ralph Lauren Black Label Fall 2013 Collection. Amidst fruity cocktails and stylish Neiman Marcus shoppers, RL’s Black Label took center stage with a collection filled with cashmere sweaters, leather jackets, and perfectly placed pops of red. Some of my favorite pieces included the leather-paneled denim, as well as a knee-length caplet cocktail dress—Ralph Lauren’s most recent must-have dress for both celebrities and fashionistas alike.
Ronald Baroody, director of Retail Development for Ralph Lauren Black Label, sat down with me post-presentation to chat about the collection and opened up about Lauren’s latest Black Label inspiration. To my pleasant surprise, it was Ralph Lauren’s very own exclusive car collection (let’s just say Jerry Seinfeld has nothing on Ralph) that inspired the moto leather jackets and leather detail throughout the collection. And while leather is generally thought of as a 30-and-under look, Ralph Lauren once again worked his magic to create a line that transcends all ages. From tweed mixed with leather and cashmere lined in sequins, the neutral tones and simple lines kept true to Ralph Lauren’s always classic, yet contemporary all-American aesthetic.
