The Top Design Blogs You Aren't Reading

Alright, so if you’re reading this, then you probably have at least a passing interest in Interior Design. Or you got lost on here trying to find something to do with your kids this weekend (Just click on the Family tab waaay over to the right at the top there. You’re welcome.). And I’m sure you know all about the heavy hitters of the design blogosphere; the Lonny’s, the Apartment Therapy’s,  the Design Sponges… But there are TONS of other great design blogs that are worth your time too.

Emily Henderson

You may remember her as the winner of Design Star a little while back, or watch her HGTV show, but her blog is where she really shines. She has an engaging writing style and she does a great job of really taking you behind the scenes of not only the interior design industry, but her life as well. She’s the anti-Kelly Wearstler.

The Vintique Object

The Vintique Object

The project of a designer with a penchant for photography, this blog covers quite a range of design styles, but what really makes it shine is the in-depth analysis that she does on the way interiors are staged and styled for magazine shoots. Which doesn’t sound all the interesting, but it is.

Scrap Hacker

This is a great site for all the DIYers out there, with a focus on reusing or modifying stuff you probably already have. Every entry is a series of similar projects (i.e. DIY side tables) as opposed to random ones scattered through the site. Some pics are just for inspiration— “Hey! I could totally do THAT!”—and some link back to the blog that originally posted the DIY instructions.

Interior Design Musings

Written by an interior designer in Alabama, this blog has a little bit of everything in it; from trends and DIY projects, to food and event planning. She posts often, but not so much that you’re overwhelmed if you go a week or two without checking in.

Holly Mathis Interiors

So, true story… I stumbled across this great blog through Country Living Magazine, only to discover that Holly is married to a guy that I went to elementary school with. In Texas. A looong time ago. Her blog is a great mix of her projects that she’s working on (including her own house), shopping expeditions for clients, and just a lot of her opinions and thoughts on various design related subjects. She also has a very down to earth style that is easy to relate to.
