One of my favorite parts about decorating is picking out the window treatments. I used to think I was limited to big box store offerings because of my small budget. Custom drapery seemed unattainable to me.
However, that is not true at all. I soon found out that if I could iron, I could make custom drapery for myself. Since I don't sew, I picked up some no-sew iron hem from Wal-Mart to make my first set of curtains.
This brand, Stitch Witchery, could work just as well!
I ordered some fabric online and then got to work ironing in the hem. Basically, you measure how tall and wide you want the curtains and then iron the hem in about an inch on all 4 sides. Afterwards, I clipped some curtain rings onto the fabric and hung the drapes from a regular curtain rod.
I recently used this same method in my home office and love the look! I really like how you can determine the height of your curtains by buying the correct yardage. No longer are you limited to the standard sizes offered in stores.
I am always on the look-out for interesting fabrics to turn into drapery for my home. Keep your eyes peeled, and you can make some of your own custom drapery for your rooms, too!
