Friday the 13th: What's Keeping Us Optimistic

Ah, Friday the 13th—the only one in 2010. Today, the world battles heat, flooding, and increasingly well-targeted products, among other encroaching maladies (catch that summer cold that's going around yet?).

Amid the misery, however, we've caught a few hopeful signals on our radar:

• The August 2 opening of Saint Louis Coworking, a new collaborative office space in The Shell Building downtown where freelancers (or those just looking for a change of scenery) can set up a desk ($450 a month) or just drop in for a day ($15)—or stop by the next Geek Night August 25.

• The launch of a new (and much slicker) website for Arch Reactor, St. Louis' very own hackerspace. We've had our eye on this group's progress for a while (from afar; haven't had a chance to come out and visit yet), as it's the only such dedicated, collaborative tech space here in town (Columbia and Kansas City have two hackerspaces each; Rolla has one).

• The continuing optimism of I am staying in St. Louis because… As the Tumblr notes, "There are a lot of reasons to stay in St. Louis"—even in the middle of a massive heat wave.

So let's hear it from you, readers: What's keeping you optimistic, today of all days?
