The news of Harry Bean's untimely passing brought much sadness to the SLM staff. St. Louis Magazine shared several passions with Harry, including a love of parties, charity galas, and—of course—party pics. Harry regularly contributed photos to Glitterati and made sure to attend our fashion shows and launch parties to snap shots. He was always punctual, always cheerful, and continually impressed us by remembering the names of almost everyone he encountered. Every time we spoke with him he had a joke, a quick story, or a wry observation to share.
As the man behind the camera, Harry rarely stepped into the spotlight himself, but he was nonetheless the life of the party. In his role as the professional photographer at the helm of Blacktie-St. Louis, Harry managed a full complement of staff photographers, but still put in long, hard hours himself. He was always on the go, sometimes attending more than a half-dozen events in one evening. He did this in the service of a singular mission: to ensure that every nonprofit organization, regardless of its size, received due coverage.
Our condolences go out to Harry's wife, Lisa, and the entire Bean family. On behalf of all of us here at St. Louis Magazine, we must say that he will be missed. —The SLM Staff
