From the day you were born, the selfless nurses of St. Louis have been at your aid. All around our city, these men and women proudly provide the care and support that patients not only require, but deserve. And in honor of these diligent and dedicated nurses, St. Louis Magazine and Chamberlain College of Nursing will be hosting our fourth annual Excellence in Nursing Awards Reception on Thursday, April 25 at the Kemp Auto Museum.
Last fall, we put out the call for nominations and received more than 200 submissions. While each and every one of the nominees had an outstanding background in their field, the judges carefully narrowed the list to 63 exceptional finalists in 18 categories. Our 2013 selection committee included Karen Daley, President of the American Nurses Association; Karen Drenkard, Executive Director of American Nurses Credentialing Center; Lora Lacey-Haun, Dean of the University of Missouri—Kansas City School of Nursing; Anne Heine, Instructor of Clinical Nursing at the University of Missouri—Columbia Sinclair School of Nursing; Jill Kliethermes, CEO of the Missouri Nurses Association; Bonnie Niebuhr, CEO of the American Board of Nursing Specialties; and Diane Twedell, Chief Nursing Officer of Mayo Clinic Health System, Southeast Minnesota Region.

I actually AM a nurse (@ BJH) &, not only am I soooooooooo glad to see this FABULOUS recognition (for the 2nd year in a row), but I'm ALSO sooooooooo excited to see friends & colleagues on your short list ONCE AGAIN.....who TOTALLY DESERVE TO BE THERE!!!! I absolutely, positively MUST-MUST-MUST ADD that 13.5 years ago, when my eldest son was born 4.5 weeks early @ MBMC, was really, REALLY ill, on a vent within minutes after birth & in the NICU for 2 weeks, KATHY DILL WAS MY LIFESAVER AND MY LIFELINE!!!! In fact, she was BOTH for my entire extended family as well!! KATHY DILL SAVED MY SONS LIFE NUMEROUS TIMES during those 2 weeks, she TOTALLY kept me sane (no small task for a post partim, crazy hormonal RN new mom!!!!!!) & I absolutely, wholeheartedly KNOW....even alllllllllllllllll these years later, that she was absolutely hand picked & heaven-sent for me & soooooooooo many others!!!! We've NEVER forgotten you Kathy, AND NEVER WILL!!!!!!
Congratulations to all of the recipients, and especially to Sr. Mary Elizabeth Voss, FSGM! Having known Sister for several years, I am delighted but not surprised that the she has received public recognition for her work in senior services. I feel certain that I join Sister in hoping that this award bring more attention both to the Mother of Good Counsel Home, where Sister serves as Director of Nursing, and to the religious community, the Franciscan Sisters of the Martyr St. George, to which she belongs.
